Questions

How is the order decided?
Every Spotlight business has its card on the home page every day, and only the order changes. It is shuffled again at midnight in Ottawa, so the business at the top of the home page’s band and of its category’s page changes from day to day.
Am I shown first in ViaOttawa’s search and the assistant?
When what someone searches for or asks matches your business, by its name, its description or its category, it can be shown first: above the results on the first page of ViaOttawa’s search, and first among the places the assistant shows. Two spots, shared by the Spotlight businesses that match, always marked Sponsored. A search that has nothing to do with your business never shows it, and the assistant is told never to call a business better because it is sponsored.
How is a Spotlight card labelled?
In the bands and boards that show it, and first in search and the assistant, a Spotlight card says Sponsored. In a category list it wears the plan’s name, Spotlight. The Verified seal is a separate thing: a person checked the phone, the website and who owns them. It never means we rate or recommend the business.
What is the website you make for me?
In the first year we design and build a website of up to 5 pages for your business, from what you send us and what your listing holds, and keep it online. You see a preview first and may ask for up to 3 rounds of changes within 14 days. Each renewal, $229 a year, keeps it online, and we update it whenever your business details change. You can connect a domain you own at no extra cost. Forms, a shop, more pages or a new design are extra work, quoted separately. If the plan ends, the website is paused. Come back within 60 days and you pay $229 again, because we kept it; after that it is deleted.
Can I cancel?
Yes, any time, with Manage plan on your dashboard or from the Orders page of your Whop account. The plan runs to the end of the year you paid for, then the page goes back to a free listing, and nothing you entered is deleted. We do not refund the unused part of a year, except in the cases the Terms set out. The Terms have the details.
Does it help with search engines?
We make no promise about search engines. What Spotlight buys is on this page: places on ViaOttawa, a direct link to your website, and a website we make for you.
