CF Rideau Centre: Ottawa's Premier Downtown Mall

CF Rideau Centre Ottawa Ottawa's largest mall in the heart of downtown

Address: 50 Rideau Street, Ottawa, ON K1N 9J7

CF Rideau Centre is Ottawa's flagship downtown mall, with about 180 stores and restaurants in its online directory. It sits on Rideau Street between the ByWard Market and the Rideau Canal, a short walk from Parliament Hill, and Rideau Station on O-Train Line 1 is right outside.

What Makes Rideau Centre Special

The mall is home to Ottawa's Simons, the city's main department store now that Nordstrom (2023) and Hudson's Bay (June 2025) have both left Canada. It is also where you'll find Tiffany & Co., Michael Kors, Anthropologie, Harry Rosen, Hugo Boss and Canada Goose. The former Nordstrom space is being filled: the mall announced in October 2026 that Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn and West Elm will open there in 2027, with Montblanc arriving in November 2026.

The food court mixes chains such as Chick-fil-A, Chipotle, Thai Express and Shawarma Palace with local names, and JOEY Rideau covers sit-down dining.

What Makes Bayshore Special

Bayshore is home to Clément, the Quebec baby and children's store, which makes it a natural first stop for families shopping for kids. The mall's 2016 expansion added 340,000 square feet and 30 stores, and the newest addition is its Food Hall.

What Makes St. Laurent Special

St. Laurent opened in October 1967 and is run by Morguard. Its Hudson's Bay anchor closed with the rest of the chain in 2025, so the draw today is the mix of fashion chains, everyday services and a second-run cinema, Ciné Starz.

The direct connection to St-Laurent O-Train Station (Line 1) makes it incredibly convenient for car-free shopping trips from anywhere on the Confederation Line.

South Keys Shopping Centre: Power Centre with O-Train Access

South Keys Shopping Centre Power centre format with entertainment options

Address: 2210 Bank Street, Ottawa, ON K1V 1J5

South Keys operates as a power centre—a cluster of big-box stores rather than an enclosed mall. The SmartCentres-owned centre has about 20 stores and services in eight buildings, and the wider South Keys retail area around it adds more big names. Its O-Train access makes it one of the most transit-friendly big-box shopping destinations in Ottawa.

What Makes South Keys Special

The Cineplex Odeon theatre makes South Keys a popular evening destination. With two O-Train stations at either end (Greenboro and South Keys on Line 2, with the Line 4 airport link at South Keys), it's highly accessible without a car—a rarity for big-box shopping.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Which Ottawa mall has the most stores?

CF Rideau Centre has the biggest directory, with about 180 stores and restaurants, and it also has the most premium and luxury retailers. Bayshore is close behind with over 170 retailers, and St. Laurent lists about 160.

Q: Is parking free at Ottawa malls?

Most Ottawa malls offer free parking, including Bayshore, St. Laurent, Carlingwood, Place d'Orléans, Billings Bridge, Tanger Outlets, and the power centres. CF Rideau Centre is the notable exception: $6 for the first hour, $12 for two, $18 for three and $22 for 4 to 12 hours.

Q: Which mall is closest to downtown Ottawa?

CF Rideau Centre is located directly downtown at 50 Rideau Street, a short walk from Parliament Hill and connected to the Rideau O-Train Station.

Q: What happened to Lincoln Fields mall?

Lincoln Fields Shopping Centre closed in 2019, when its leases ended on July 31, and was demolished in 2020-2021. Metro and Rexall moved into new buildings on the site, and RioCan's long-term plans call for residential towers.

Q: Which mall has the best outlet deals?

Tanger Outlets Ottawa in Kanata is Ottawa's only outlet mall, with 78 outlet stores, eateries and services in its directory. Discounts vary by store, so compare prices before you buy.

Q: Can I take the O-Train to go shopping?

Yes! Three major shopping areas have O-Train access: CF Rideau Centre (Rideau Station, Line 1), St. Laurent Centre (St-Laurent Station, Line 1), and South Keys (South Keys/Greenboro Stations, Line 2).

Q: Which mall is best for luxury shopping?

CF Rideau Centre is Ottawa's main destination for luxury shopping, with Simons, Tiffany & Co., Harry Rosen, Hugo Boss, Canada Goose and other premium brands. Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn and West Elm are due to open in the former Nordstrom space in 2027.

Q: What are Boxing Day hours at Ottawa malls?

Boxing Day hours vary by mall. For Saturday, December 26, 2026, Bayshore has posted 8AM-9PM and Merivale Mall 10AM-5PM. Always check individual mall websites for confirmed holiday hours.

Q: Is there an Apple Store in Ottawa?

Yes, Ottawa has two Apple Store locations: one at CF Rideau Centre (downtown) and one at Bayshore Shopping Centre (west end).

Q: Which mall is best for families with young children?

Bayshore Shopping Centre is ideal for families, featuring the Clément baby and children's store, Carter's OshKosh, Build-A-Bear, free parking, and a wide variety of family-friendly stores.

Q: What time should I arrive for Black Friday sales?

Black Friday 2026 is November 27. Bayshore has posted 8AM-10PM hours for the day, and the best deals get picked over quickly, so arrive near opening. Consider shopping on Saturday or Sunday of Black Friday weekend for similar deals with fewer crowds.

Q: Are Ottawa malls open on holidays?

Ottawa malls close on Christmas Day and open late on Remembrance Day (12:30 p.m. at most malls). Several, including Bayshore and Merivale Mall, also close on New Year's Day, and Merivale closes on most other statutory holidays. Always check individual mall websites before visiting on statutory holidays.

Q: Where can I find the best electronics deals in Ottawa?

Best Buy has several Ottawa stores, and Rideau Centre has a Best Buy Express. Apple Stores at Rideau Centre and Bayshore provide Apple products with knowledgeable staff. Staples (South Keys and other locations) offers computers and office electronics. For used electronics and deals, check Kijiji or Facebook Marketplace.

Q: Is there a mall near Ottawa's airport?

The closest major shopping area to Ottawa International Airport is South Keys, about 10 minutes away by car, and the O-Train Line 4 airport link ends at South Keys Station. Billings Bridge is also nearby. For outlet shopping near the airport area, Tanger Outlets in Kanata is about 30 minutes west.

Q: Which mall has the best food court?

CF Rideau Centre has the most varied food court, with Chick-fil-A, Chipotle, Shawarma Palace, Thai Express, Jimmy the Greek and more, plus JOEY Rideau for a sit-down meal. Bayshore's new Food Hall is the west-end alternative. For quick meals, most mall food courts offer similar fast-food chains at comparable prices.

Q: Can I return items to any mall location?

Return policies are store-specific, not mall-specific. Most chain stores accept returns at any location with receipt. Check individual store return policies, as they vary widely. During holiday season (November-January), many stores extend return windows to 60-90 days.

Q: Are there services for tourists at Ottawa malls?

CF Rideau Centre's Guest Services desk on Level 3, next to the Freiman Bridge, helps visitors find stores and services, and the mall is steps from the ByWard Market and Parliament Hill. Canada does not refund sales tax to individual visitors on goods, so expect 13% HST on most purchases. All major malls accept major credit cards including international cards.

Q: Which Ottawa malls have movie theatres?

South Keys features a Cineplex Odeon multiplex theatre, and St. Laurent has Ciné Starz, a second-run cinema inside the mall. Other Ottawa cinemas sit beside shopping areas rather than inside them, so check the theatre chains' websites for the nearest one.

Q: Where can I find plus-size clothing in Ottawa malls?

Torrid at Bayshore specializes in plus-size fashion, and Penningtons has a store at Trainyards. Addition Elle closed its stores in 2020, and Hudson's Bay closed every store in 2025.

Q: Are pets allowed in Ottawa malls?

Most enclosed malls prohibit pets except service animals. Power centres like Trainyards and South Keys are outdoor, so leashed dogs are sometimes seen in common areas. Pet stores such as Pet Valu at Trainyards welcome well-behaved leashed pets. Always check individual mall policies.

Q: Which mall is best for teenage shoppers?

CF Rideau Centre is the top choice for teens, with Apple Store, Aritzia, H&M, Zara, Uniqlo and a vibrant atmosphere. Bayshore is the second choice with similar stores, Zumiez, and free parking. Tanger Outlets appeals to brand-conscious teens looking for Nike, Adidas, and designer outlet deals.

Q: How late are Ottawa malls open?

CF Rideau Centre, Bayshore, St. Laurent, Merivale and Tanger Outlets stay open until 9pm Monday to Saturday. Carlingwood, Billings Bridge and Hazeldean close at 8pm on weekdays, and Place d'Orléans at 7pm or 8pm. Sundays end between 5pm and 6pm. Holiday-season hours are posted by each mall, and power centres have store-specific hours.

Q: Where can I get my phone repaired at Ottawa malls?

Multiple phone repair options exist: Apple Store (Rideau, Bayshore) for Apple devices, Mobile Klinik at Rideau Centre for all brands, and independent repair kiosks in many mall concourses. Always compare prices and read reviews.
